My Story
Ian L. Paterson is CEO of Plurilock Security (TSX-V: PLUR), a cybersecurity system integrator serving US and Canadian federal governments and Global 2000 enterprises. He has spent 15 years commercializing emerging technology, from data analytics and machine learning to cybersecurity and AI.
At Plurilock, he led the commercialization of a University of Victoria research spinout, productizing over 35,000 hours of academic research, taking the company public on the TSX Venture Exchange, and completing four international acquisitions across North America and Asia. Under his leadership, Plurilock has generated over $250M in cumulative revenue, raised $50M in equity and debt financing, and he is co-inventor on multiple patents in digital identity and data analytics.
Before Plurilock, Ian founded Exapik, a bootstrapped data monetization platform processing over a billion data events per month for AdTech and FinTech clients, that was subsequently acquired.
Earlier, he led the enterprise data science division at Terapeak, a venture-backed analytics firm later acquired by eBay, where he led, sold, and delivered eight figures in revenue from data and analytics products to the world’s most sophisticated data consumers. His career spans the full spectrum of capital structures, from bootstrapping to venture-backed growth to public markets.
Ian is active in technology governance and national security policy, contributing to the Atlantic Council, the Stimson Center, and CIGI, and in 2025 co-founded the Open Resilience Institute. He serves on the TMX Group Advisory Committee and the Council of Canadian Innovators, and is a Creative Destruction Labs alumnus (CDL-West).
Ian is an active angel investor with over a dozen early-stage technology investments, and hosts Code and Country, a podcast exploring the intersection of cybersecurity, national security, and geopolitics. He has been featured in Forbes, Reuters, CBC, the Globe and Mail, the Wall Street Journal, and other publications.
